Arthroscopic Bankart’s Repair

Advancement in arthroscopy techniques helped in better understanding of shoulder problems and its treatment.  Arthroscopic Bankarts Repair is a procedure done for shoulder instability or recurrent shoulder dislocation.  Bankarts repair involves repair of torn labrum and associated structures.

Injury to shoulder due to accident or sports injury leads to labrum tear. Labrum is an important structure which maintains stability of shoulder joint. In many cases of recurrent shoulder dislocation the commonest cause is labral tear with associated injury to surrounding structures. Arthroscopic stabilization is a treatment of choice in such cases of shoulder dislocation or recurrent shoulder instability.

In Arthroscopic Bankarts repair surgeon inserts small camera through a pin hole inside the shoulder joint.  With another pin hole incisions torned labrum is repaired with help of suture anchors.

In some patients of recurrent shoulder dislocation open surgical procedure is required to regain previous shoulder stability and function.

Arthroscopic Bankarts Repair is better than Open Surgical Repair in terms of lesser surgical morbidity, postoperative pain, improved cosmesis and early rehabilitation.
