Adult trauma can occur due to any type of external force or impact like a fall or road traffic accident. In most cases, they are not life-threatening but require appropriate and timely care in expert hands to minimize long term suffering and disability.

Our centre is equipped with advanced equipment and the latest machines to take care of all trauma needs. We have treated many patients suffering from different types of musculoskeletal injuries with the best results and excellent patient satisfaction.

Any break in the continuity of a bone is called a fracture; it can be due to a fall, sports injury or road traffic accident. There are various types of fractures depending upon different classifications systems.

Types of fractures:

Simple fractures

In this type of fracture, broken fragments are well aligned and stable. These types of fracture are mostly managed conservatively by cast, splints or traction. Simple fracture takes least time to unite varying from 4 weeks to 8 weeks depending upon patients and fracture related variables

Complex fracture

Complex fracture is those where bone is broken into multiple fragments into different configuration and sizes. This type of fracture needs some type of intervention to align bony fragments back to their original state.

Unstable fractures

Unstable fractures are those where broken fragments are misaligned and displaced. It requires closed or open reduction of bone pieces and casting or splintage till bone unites.

Open (compound) fractures

Open fractures are those where fractured bone is exposed to outside environment i.e. visible outside the skin. These types of fracture are emergency and require immediate medical and surgical treatment.

 Greenstick fractures

This is a unique fracture in children that involves bending of one side of the bone without any break in the bone.

Osteoporotic fracture

Osteoporosis is a condition where inner strength of bone decreases leading to chances of fracture even with trivial or minor injuries. This fracture commonly occurs in old age.

These fractures need extra care as geriatric patients are more prone to succumb due to this injury. There is great role of rehabilitation and proper home care in such types of injuries.

Pathological fracture

Pathological fracture occurs in patients whose strength of bone decreases due to any other coexisting diseases or medications such as cancer patients or patients on long term chemotherapy or steroid therapy.

Stress Fracture

It is caused by repeated stressful activities like jumping or running as in sports activities and sometimes in a job where some repetitive force or overuse develops minor crack in the bone.

Fracture management

Basic management of fracture involves reduction of fracture followed by maintaining that reduction till bone heals. There are various methods of fracture reduction and maintenance of that fracture reduction like POP casting, traction, external fixation, plating and nailing.

Non-operative treatment

Casting

It involve reducing the fracture fragments and keeping them reduced in a cast for 4 weeks to

Traction
Traction method is used for the management of fractures and dislocations that cannot be treated by casting. There are two methods of traction namely, skin traction and skeletal traction.

Surgical treatment

Closed reduction and internal fixation (CRIF)

CRIF is a surgical procedure where fracture is reduced to its normal alignment with the help of C ARM. C ARM is a type of x ray machine installed inside the operation theater which shows real time picture of position of fracture fragments. And then the fracture fragments are fixed using k wires or nails.

Open Reduction Internal Fixation

Open reduction of fracture involves opening the fracture site using surgical incision and reducing under vision. These fracture fragments are than kept in the reduced position using plate screws, k wires or nailing system.
